D-chiro-Inositol (DCI) is a member of the inositol group, which includes nine isomers with various biological functions. Among these, myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol play crucial but distinct roles in the body. DCI is less abundant in nature compared to myo-inositol, which constitutes about 99% of the intracellular inositol pool. D-chiro-inositol is derived from myo-inositol and is found in the beans of the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua). The major ingredient of Chinositol, DCI, acts as a secondary messenger for insulin.
