The key difference between DL methionine and L methionine is that DL methionine is a racemic mixture of D and L enantiomers of methionine whereas L methionine is the L enantiomer of methionine. Methionine is an essential amino acid for humans.

DL Methionine is sparingly soluble in water; very slightly soluble in ethanol (~750 g/l) TS. It dissolves in dilute acids and in dilute solutions of the alkali hydroxides.

Both Sulfate and Chloride are present less than or equal to 0.2% in the product.

One millimole of methionine as it is metabolized in the liver will theoretically produce 2 mEq of sulfuric acid, which is excreted largely in the urine.
